↓ Download the free questionnaireSizing an off-grid system isn't complicated — it's five numbers, worked out in order. The trouble is keeping them straight while you juggle appliance labels, sun-hour tables and battery percentages. This worksheet lays all five out on a single page so you can fill in the blanks and end up with a real, buildable system spec.
The worksheet mirrors our full Off-Grid Sizing Guide — if you want the reasoning behind each step (why winter sun hours matter, why lithium changes the battery math), read that alongside it. The worksheet is the fill-in-the-blanks version.
What the questionnaire covers
It's the same intake a professional solar designer would use, laid out on one page:
Your site — province, property type, winter temperatures, and whether the battery lives somewhere heated (which matters in a Canadian winter).
System type & goals — off-grid, hybrid, or grid-tie; backup vs. fully off-grid; whether there's grid or a generator at the site. Not sure which you need? There's a "advise me" option — that's what we're here for.
Energy use — daily/seasonal kWh if you know it, or just list your major appliances with their wattage and runtime and we'll total it.
Existing equipment — any panels or generator already on site, and whether you're going roof or ground mount.
Two ways to use it
Do it yourself: print the sheet, fill it in, and you'll have a complete system spec you can shop from — panels, battery, inverter, controller.
Let us do it — free: fill in your loads and location (even roughly), then email the sheet to support@neighborhoodsolarstore.ca or attach it through Get a Quote. We'll turn it into a complete, matched system design and ship it Canada-wide. No cost, no obligation.
Rather we size it for you?
Send us your completed worksheet and we'll design a full off-grid system around your actual loads and location — free, no obligation, shipped Canada-wide.
